Pancho Campo's Recommendation:

Casa Mono en Marbella - one of the bst cuisines of the Costa del Sol with great French specialties. Not a great wine list but interesting. www.casamono.es

PARKERS CANCELS HIS PARTICIPATION IN WINEFUTURE This is the second part of the previous post titlled "Parker, Winefuture and some interesting backstage stories". After receiving Parker´s email cancelling his participation in Winefuture Rioja my wife and I spent the rest of the day thinking about how to deal with the situation. We needed to get Parker back on track or develop a really thorough strategy to cancel the event minimizing the loss of reputation and money. My initial thought was to get on the phone and tell Parker a few things about his childish reaction to what a couple of bloggers had written about Jay Miller and The Wine Advocate. He had a contract signed with us, a hefty deposit had been paid, advertising was being published all over the world, sponsorship had been collected and tickets were selling like hot cakes. At about 10.00 PM my wife told me send an email to Bob, telling him exactly what I had in mind but in a friendly and diplomatic way. So I did but she had to really tone down the email. I was furious still and could not believe that a guy like him could take seriously the amount rubbish published by some of his detractors.
ROBERT PARKER, WINEFUTURE AND SOME BACKSTAGE STORIES (PART 1)   Robert Parker has become the most respected and influential wine critic in the history of the industry. No one else has managed to acquire too much influence in his hands and his wine ratings of regions such as Bordeaux, the Rhone, California, and Spain can really make a difference in sales of their wines. Parker had a vision when he started rating wines, to be able to offer American consumers an independent guide when purchasing wines. With this purpose in mind he developed a rating system based in the same scale used by American school to grade students, this is why it was so easy for consumers in the US to become familiar with his system. But Parker´s success has triggered a lot of jealousy from other writers and critics, generating tremendous controversy in recent years.
